DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther volleyball team pushed the University of Dubuque to four sets on Wednesday night. The Spartans won the match in four sets, 15-25, 25-20, 12-25, 18-25.
Emily Hagen led the offense with 13 kills. While
Gabbie Schei,
Kyah Olson-Sola and
Karoline Tiu each tallied 13 digs on defense. Luther is 7-17 overall and 1-5 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
After dropping the opening set 25-15 the Norse flipped the script. Luther had an early 9-4 lead thanks to kills from
Haley Gossman,
Sarina Stortz,
Emily Hagen and
Zoe Verhey. Which forced Dubuque to take their first timeout of the set. The Spartans gained some momentum back but the Norse kept inching their lead further and further. Back-to-back kills from Stortz and Verhey at 19-12 made Dubuque take the final timeout. Then at 23-19, Luther took a timeout to regroup. It was all they needed to close out the set 25-20 on two kills from Stortz. The match was tied at one set apiece.
Dubuque won the third set 25-12. Then in the fourth set, the Norse and Spartans were both balanced on offense and defense. Midway through the set Dubuque tied it at 15 before going on a five-point run. The Norse kept fighting as Stortz and Hagen had back-to-back kills. However, the Spartans closed any chance of a fifth set winning the match 3-1 and the final set 25-18.
Luther is 7-17 overall and 1-5 in A-R-C.
