Luther and Buena Vista University wrapped up their three-game series this afternoon in the valley. Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Luther scored three runs to tie the game at 3-3. The Norse added two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to secure the 6-4 come-from-behind victory.
Charlie Rubendall and
Joshua Matanich led the Norse attack with two rbi each. Rubendall drove in both of his runs with a triple down the right field line in the fifth, that scored Peyton Lindamark and
Luke Plunkett who started the frame with back-to-back singles. Rubendall scored on an infield ground ball by Matanich. In the seventh, Matanich drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored
Gavin Scurr who had hit a one-out triple to right field.
Joe Jersak followed three batters later and drew a bases load walk that gave the Norse a 5-3 lead after seven complete.
Mark Prince drove in the final Norse run in the eight with a single.
Collin Chalmers (2-2) picked up the win in relief. Chalmers took over for
Ryan Manternach who pitched six complete and allowed three runs on eight hits. Chalmers took over in the seventh with the score tied at 3-3. The only run he allowed was in the top of the ninth.
The win gives Luther and A-R-C record of 9-8, 17-14 overall. Buena Vista remains atop the league standings with a mark of 13-5, 21-11.
Luther will return home on Tuesday, April 26 when it will host Coe Colllege. This one nine-inning game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
