Luther hosted league leading Buena Vista University today for the first two games of this three-game series. The Beavers defeated the Norse 15-5 and 5-3 in warm and very windy conditions.
In game one with the score tied 5-5, the Beavers took the lead for good adding a run in the sixth. They blew the game wide open adding seven runs in the eighth and finished with two runs in the ninth.
Luther did all of its damage in the second and third innings.
Noah Sebben hit a three-run home run in the second and both
Charlie Rubendall and
Gavin Scurr drove in a run in the third. Rubendall, Scurr and
Joshua Matanich were all 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, the Norse were held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth. Matanich hit a bases loaded single and Sebben drew a bases loaded walk before the Beavers Calvin Harris was able to get out of the jam.
Following today's action, Luther is now 8-8 in the A-R-C, 16-14 overall. Buena Vista is 13-4, 21-10.
This series will be completed tomorrow with one nine inning game. First pitch will be tossed at Noon.
