The third game of the Luther - Wartburg series is officially declared complete. The game was called due to darkness with the Knights leading 3-1 after six complete and at that time declared suspended.
Following that declaration, it was brought to both institutions attention by Conference Commissioner Dan Hammes that the decision of a halted game was inaccurate, based on the A-R-C baseball sport regulations 2.2, that the final game of the weekend of midweek series shall be played under the
NCAA Rule 5.8 "Regulation Game."
Following an appeal by Luther College Director of Athletics
Renae Hartl, the AD Council Executive Committee and the Faculty Athletic Representative Council voted 6-0 to deny the appeal to consider the Luther vs. Wartburg weekday series game as aÂ
Halted Game, as outlined in Rule 5.9, as opposed to aÂ
Regulation Game as stated in Rule 5.8. In review, the AD/FAR committees agreed on the following: Â
Â
• The Commissioner's ruling was within the authority laid out in Articles IX and XII of the A-R-C Constitution.
• The Commissioner correctly interpreted a rule contained in the A-R-C Sport Regulations.
• The Commissioner's determinations of fact were reasonable in light of the available evidence.
