It took 11 innings before Luther secured a 3-1 victory over the University of Dubuque in the first game of this three-game series.
With score tied 1-1 entering the top of the 11th,
Gavin Scurr hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence.
Charlie Rubendall started the frame reaching on an error by the Spartans third baseman.
Luther scored its first run in the second. Scurr led-off with a single up the middle and was driven in by
Aiden Michna three batters later.
Scurr finished the game 3-for-5 with two rbi.
Gabe Atkins also had a multiple hit game thanks to a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Colin Chalmers (1-2) picked up the win in relief. Chalmers threw the final 2 2/3 innings, allowed three hits and struck out seven, that included striking out the side in the bottom of the 11th.
Ryan Manternach got the start and pitched seven complete. He allowed one run on seven hits and struck out three.
Will Angstman faced six batters and allowed no runs and walked two in 1 1/3 innings of work.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 3-3, 10-8 overall. Dubuque fell to 3-3, 11-7.
The series will be completed on Sunday, April 3. The double header will begin at Noon.
