The men's tennis team traveled to Simpson College for the first two American Rivers Conference matches of the 2022 campaign. The Norse faced Central College in the first match and defeated the Dutch 7-2. The Norse trailed 2-1 after doubles and responded with a sweep of singles play to secure the victory.
In doubles, nationally ranked No. 9
Max Loen and
Nyathi Motlojoa posted an (8-3) win over Tanner Finken and Nick Scott at No. 1. The duo is now 11-5 for the year.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Joaquim Fernandes and
Francisco Navarrete and the No. 3 duo of Nate Whiters and Ely Young were defeated (8-6).
All six singles matches were won in straight sets. Motlojoa defeated Finken (6-3, 6-2) at No. 1; Loen defeated Trey Melvin (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2; Fernandes defeated Brad DiLeo at No. 3 (7-5, 6-3);
Eli Young was up (7-5, 3-1) when Nick Scott retired at No. 4;
Dylan Wiemers posted a (6-4, 6-2) victory over Ayden Fletcher at No. 5; and
Charlie Weill defeated Caleb Hamerlinck (6-1, 6-2) at No. 6.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 4-4.
