Biography
2023-24: Loen finishes his career as a four-time all-conference singles and a three-time all-conference doubles honoree. He received both singles and doubles all-conference honors in his final season. He is also the career doubles win leader in school history. Loen partnered with Luke Westholder and claimed the "A" doubles title at the A-R-C Individual tournament. He ends his career at 53-30 in signles and 91-26 in doubles.Â
2022-23: Loen's junior season got off to a hot start, as he earned both gold and silver medalist honors at the A-R-C Individual Championships. Loen, along with partner Luke Westholder, won the "A" Doubles draw, earning gold medalist honors in the event for the second consecutive season. Loen also was crowned the silver medalist in "A" Singles, falling to teammate Westholder in the championship match. At the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament, Loen advanced to the second round of competition in the singles draw and made it to the third round with partner Westholder in the doubles tournament. Loen then made history in the spring season, joining elite company as the fifth player in program history to earn All-Conference honors in singles play three times in his career. He additionally took home All-Conference honors in doubles for the second straight season thanks to a near undefeated record in 2022-23. Loen posted a combined record of 32-10 in his third season with Luther, which included a 13-6 mark as the team's No. 2 singles player. He additionally went 19-4 in doubles matches, which included a 17-3 mark in dual match play. However, Loen was virtually untouchable against A-R-C opponents, going 4-0 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles matches during the 2023 conference season. He, along with partner Luke Westholder, won the gold medal at the A-R-C Individual Championship back in September, while Loen took home Silver Medal honors in the "A" Singles Tournament that same weekend. He additionally joined the 100 match wins club against Coe on April 12.Â
2021-22: Loen took home a slew of awards his sophomore year with the Norse, as he earned First Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season. Loen earned the honor in both singles and doubles play after posting a combined record of 44-20 during the season, including a 28-8 mark in doubles play. Loen, along with partner Nyathi Motlojoa, competed at the ITA Cup in doubles play after finishing second at the ITA Midwest Regional during the fall season. Additionally, the duo were ranked as high as No. 9 in the country during the 2021-22 season as they posted a 24-7 record during the year.Â
2020-21: Loen earned All-Conference honors in singles play after an impressive debut season with Luther. He posted a singles record of 14-2 during the year, primarily serving as the team's No. 3 singles play. Loen additionally played No. 2 doubles with senior Book Norwood, where he posted a season record of 16-6.Â
High School: Loen was a three-year letter winner while at Eau Claire Memorial High School, and was twice crowned the Big Rivers Conference individual champion. Leon won two section titles during his high school career and placed fourth at the Wisconsin DI State Tournament. Additionally, he helped lead the Abes to the semifinals of the team tournament.
Personal: Loen is son of Matt and Carla Loen. His dad is the head men's hockey coach at UW-Eau Claire.Â
