Luther and Loras wrapped up their American Rivers Conference opening weekend with a double header this afternoon in Decorah. Both games were scheduled for nine innings, but both games ended after seven due to the 10-run rule. Luther won game one 13-1 and Loras won game two 17-2.
In game one,
Tyler Boesel went the distance on the mound and allowed one run on five hits. The Duhawks lone run was a lead-off home run to left field in the top of the fifth by second baseman Dylan Pardoe. It was the only extra base hit Boesel allowed.
The Norse blew this game open with an eight-run third inning. They scored a run on the first and also added four more in the sixth.
Charlie Rubendall,
Gavin Scurr and
Cullen Stamp led the attack driving in three runs each. Rubendall was 3-for-4, while Scurr was 2-for-4. Stamp was officially 1-for-2, reached base in all four of his at-bats and scored four times.Â
Luke Plunkett almost hit for the cycle going 3-for-3 with an rbi, that included a single, triple, double and a walk.
Joe Jersak was also credited with two rbi.
In the nightcap, the Loras bats produced 22 hits that included four two-run home runs, three by third baseman Ryan Wohlers, who finished the game with six rbi. Wohlers hit three consecutive two-run blasts against three different Norse pitchers in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames.
Both of Luther's runs were lead-off solo shots by Scurr in the second frame and
Noah Sebben in the fifth.
Luther won the three-game series 2-1 and finshed the weekend with an overall record of 9-6. Loras, who entered the weekend ranked No. 15 by d3baseball.com is now 17-2.
The Norse return to A-R-C play on Tuesday, March 29 when they will host the Wartburg College Knights. The double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
