The women's tennis team began its spring schedule with an 8-1 victory over Macalester College this afternoon in Rochester, Minn., The two teams met at the Rochester Tennis Connection. Luther won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Three of the singles matches were decided in three set tie-breakers.
In doubles,
Shelby Cook and Natalie Smith defeated Amanye Reynolds and Meg Ulrich (8-5) at No. 1.
Ana Olimpio and
Sofia Sackett won at No. 2 (8-2) over Amalin Sorajja and Avery Munster.
Lexi Hastings and
Renata Martinez won (8-2) at No. 3 over Talia Chait and Megan Twomey.
In singles, Sacket at No. 1 and Cook at No. 3 both won in three sets. Sacket defeated Sorajja (6-4, 1-6, 11-9) and Cook posted a (2-6, 6-4, 10-8) victory over Ulrich.
Julia Moreno (6-3, 6-1), Smith (6-0, 6-0) and Olimpio (6-0, 6-0) all won in straight sets.
Martinez was defeated in three sets at No. 2 by Reynolds (3-6, 6-3, 11-9).
The win gives Luther an overall record of 11-3. Macalester fell to 2-1.

Luther will travel to Sartell, Minn., and Sta-Fit at Midtown Center for two non-conference matches on March 5. The Norse will face the College of St. Benedict at 9:00 a.m. and UW-River Falls at 12:30 p.m.
