Men's Tennis Defeats Augustana (IL) 7-2

The men's tennis team improved to 2-4 after defeating Augustana-Rock Island 7-2 this afternoon at the Quad Cities Tennis Club. The Norse jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles and them proceeded to win five of six singles matches.

In doubles, nationally ranked No.9 Max Loen and Nyathi Motlojoa posted an (8-4) victory over Arthur Hermange and Deepak Vayara at No. 1. Joaquim Fernandes and Francisco Navarrete posted an (8-6) win at No. 2, and Nando Melo and Ely Young lost at No. 3 (8-5).

Three of the five wins in singles were decided by a third set tie breaker. Motlojoa came back from behind to defeat Hermange at No. 1 (2-6, 7-6(7-5), 6-4), Dylan Wiemers battled Nicholas Navarro at No. 5 and won (7-5, 6-7(0-7), 10-7), and Melo at No. 6 defeated Justin Cassens (4-6, 6-3, 6-1).

Loen at No. 2, Fernandes at No. 3 won in straight sets. Loen defeated Leonardo Panosso (6-2, 6-4) and Fernandes defeated Vayara (6-3, 7-6(7-3).

Luther's next match will be on Saturday, Feb. 26 against Macalester College. This match will take place at the Rochester Tennis Connection (MN) and will begin at 3:30 p.m.
