A free throw with four second left on the clock secured a 57-56 victory for Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.
Trailing 29-26 at haftime, Luther outscored NWU 19-13 in the third quarter and held a 45-52 lead. The Prairie Wolves outscored the Norse 14-6 in the first eight minutes of the final quarter and held a five-point advantage (56-51) with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. Kailey Jones jumper with 57 seconds remaining. NWU's Delaney Roberts was fouled during an attempted lay-up and made the first of two free throws with four ticks left on the clock. A Luther time out moved the ball to mid-court, but the final attempt to win the game fell short.
Jones posted her second double-double in as many games, producing a team high 14 points and grabbing a career high 15 boards.
Lizzie Kauls also had double digit rebounds with 10 and finished second in the scoring column for the Norse with nine. Rubie Jordan and
Kristen Elliott were next with eight points each.
Roberts led the Prairie Wolves with 16 points that included a 4-of-5 effort from behind the three-point line.
The loss levels Luther's A-R-C record to 3-3, 6-9 overall. NWU posted its first conference win tonight and is now 1-7, 3-13.
Luther will return to action at Coe College on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
