A cold shooting second half spelled doom for the women's basketball team tonight as they were defeated by the University of Dubuque 68-48. Luther held a 33-32 halftime lead thanks to a 16-5 run in the final 4:46 of the second frame. In this frame, the Norse knocked down 7-of-10 attempts from behind the three-point line. In the second half, the Norse went ice cold, connecting on 5-of-24 attempts and were outscored by the Spartans 36-15.
Kristen Elliott and
Kailey Jones led the Norse attack with 11 and 10 points respectively. Jones produced a double-double collecting 10 rebounds.
The Spartans were led by Tabria Thomas who tallied a game high 24 points. Miah Smith also had a double-double thanks to 17 points and 10 rebounds. Isabella Tierney completed the list of double digit scorers with 11.
The loss gives Luther an A-R-C record of 3-2, 6-8 overall. Dubuque improved to 4-4 in league play, 10-7 overall.
The next three games on the schedule will all be on the road for the Norse. They travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday, Jan. 22, to Coe College on Jan. 26, and to Buena Vista University on Saturday, Jan. 29. Luther's next home game will be on Monday, Jan. 31 when they will host Simpson College.
