The Buena Vista Beavers defeated Luther 32-14 this afternoon at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium in Storm Lake. The Beavers led 13-7 at halftime and outscored the Norse 19-7 in the final two frames.
Luther scored on touchdown runs of 24 yards by
Nate Swanson in the second quarter and a two-yard plunge by
Avant Porter early in the fourth.
A couple of big plays turned the tide in a close ballgame. A Buena Vista 85-yard punt return by Eric Pacheco, and a fumbled punt return by Luther on its own 19-yard line, produced 14 points for the Beavers.
Statistically, Luther had 225 yards of total offense to Buena Vista's 234. The Norse had 73 yards on the ground and 152 in the air.
Vershon Brooks led the rushing attack with 36 yards.
Michael Lorento was 16-of-31 for 152 yards with a long of 40 to
Andre Atkins who led all receivers with five receptions for 79 yards.
Zach Olson led the defensive unit with 11 tackles.
Levi Wolter and
Chris Pinkney were next with nine each and
Jeremy Whalen was credited with seven and one forced fumble.
The loss give Luther an overall record of 0-2 in the A-R-C. Buena Vista leveled it league record to 1-1.
Next week, Luther hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University for Homecoming. Kick-off will take place in Carlson Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
