Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan split this four-game series in the valley following a 10-4 victory by the Norse in game four. Luther continued to swing hot bats pounding out 17 hits, bringing today's double header total to 32. The Norse never trailed in the game scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three times in both the fourth and sixth frames.
Harrison Blum was credited with the win. Prior to the game the Norse coaching staff had decided to pitch by committee and wanted Blum to throw only 70 pitches since he has been coming back from an injury this past summer. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on two hits, walked three and struck out six. Hingst took over in the fifth, allowed two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out four.
Calvin Brinda pitched the final frame and did not allow a run.
Charlie Rubendall led the Norse offensive attack. Rubendall ws 4-for-4 with three rbi that included doubles in both the first and sixth innings.
Owen Vander Linden and
Kyle Schnobrich were both 3-for-5 with two tbi.
Luke Plunkett was also 3-for-5 and scored twice. Following today's 6-for-8 performance during the double header, he is not batting .457.
Luther remains in second place in the American Rivers Conference with a record of 13-3, 17-7 overall. No. 23 Coe sits atop the league standings with a mark of 18-2, 22-3 overall. Nebraska Wesleyan is in eighth place with a record of 6-14, 8-18.
Next weekend Luther travels to Wartburg College for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25. Both days action begins at 1:00 p.m.
