Trailing 7-1 after seven, Luther scored eight runs in the eighth and added one in the ninth en route to a 10-7 come-from-behind victory.
In the eighth, the Norse scored seven of their eight runs with two outs. Doubles by
Charlie Rubendall and
Luke Plunkett, combined with singles by
Kelby Johnson,
Owen Vander Linden,
Joe McKibben, plus
Joe Jersak and
Jayden Kies getting hit by a pitch, led to the Norse holding an 9-7 lead. Plunkett's double scored three runs and he finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate. Rubendall also hit a double in the ninth that scored Luther's final run of the game. He also finished 3-for-5.
Bryce Hingst was credited with the win in relief. Hingst took over for
John Colucci III midway through the sixth inning. He allowed two runs on two hits, walked one and struck out three.
Collin Chalmers picked up the save retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
The win gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 9-1, 13-5 overall. Buena Vista fell to 6-8 in the A-R-C, 8-11 overall.
These two teams will wrap up the four-game series tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
