Luther hosted the University of Dubuque this afternoon for the American Rivers Conference opener for the Norse. Dubuque entered today's twin bill with a league record of 3-1, 3-6 overall. Luther scored a run in the first and two in the fifth and won game one 3-1.
In the first,
Owen Vander Linden drove in
Kelby Johnson with a sacrafice fly to center field. Johnson led-off the inning with a single to center field. He advanced to second when
Luke Plunkett grounded out to the pitcher and then advanced to third on a wild pitch.
In the fifth,
Joshua Matanich was hit by a pitch. Two batters later,
Noah Sebben hit a two-run home run over the left field fence that proved to be the final runs of the game.
Tyler Boesel (2-0) went the distance on the mound. Boesel faced 23 batters, allowed one run on one hit, walked three and struck out seven. He finished the game retiring the final nine batters in a row.
