The Luther College women's basketball team improved to 3-1 in the American Rivers Conference following a 67-48 victory over Buena Vista University this afternoon in the Regents Center Gymnasium. At halftime the score was tied 26-26. The Norse proceeded to outscore the Beavers 23-17 in the third quarter and 18-5 in the fourth frame en route to the victory.
Kailey Jones led the Norse attack posting a double-double. Jones scored a game high 18 points and collected 15 rebounds, 11 on the defensive glass.
Kristen Elliott also reached double digits with 16 points. Elliott was 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line.
Amelia Solum,
Grace Prokosch and
Kate Hosking all chipped in seven points.
Defensively, the Norse held the Beavers to 28% shooting that included a 0-for-18 effort from behind the arc. The Norse also won the battle of the boards 43-39.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 4-7. Buena Vista fell to 2-2 in the A-R-C, 4-5 overall.
As a footnote, the women's overall schedule will show the correct overall record (4-7), but the conference record will only show a (2-1) mark. These total automatically generated. The NCAA recognizes non-played games as no contests. Prior to the start of this season, the league office announced that any conference games not played due to COVID related issues would be considered a forfeit in the overall standings.
Luther will be off until January 1, when it will travel to Knox College for its final non-conference game of the year. Start time in Galesburg, Ill., is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
