The Luther College women's basketball team started the 2021-22 campaign at home and defeated Martin Luther College 65-55. The game had 14 lead changes and 11 ties. The Norse won six key elements en route to the victory. The Norse outscored the Knights in points from turnovers (13-8), points in the paint (26-16), second chance points (12-4), fast break points (6-5), bench points (24-12) and rebounding (59-46). Defensively, the Norse held the Knights to 26.6%, while shooting 32.8%. Neither team shot well from behind the three-point line with Luther connecting on 21.1% and Martin Luther shooting 18.2%.
Nine different players scored for the Norse led by
Jordan Rubie who tallied 18 points.
Kristen Elliott also reached double figures with 12. Elliott and
Kate Hosking led the team with eight rebounds and
Layken McGuire collected seven.
The Knights were led by the duo of Erika Gosch with 18 points and Jordyn Heckendorf with 13.
Luther will return to action on Friday, Nov. 12 when it will host Carleton College at 7:30 p.m.
