Gustavus Adolphus jumped out to an eight-point lead early in the first quarter and never trailed en route to a 74-57 victory over Luther tonight at the Gus Young Court, St. Peter, Minn. Tonight was the first road trip for a young Norse squad that fell to 1-3.
The free throw line and points off turnovers proved to be the difference in the ball game. The Gusties had 27 attempts at the charity stripe and made 17, while Luther was 5-of-11. The Gusties also had 23 points off of Norse turnovers.
Lizzie Kauls and
Kailey Jones led the Norse attack offensively. Both tallied 10 points. Jones was 4-of-9 from the field and Kauls was 4-of-7. Kauls also posted a double-double collecting a team best 10 rebounds.
Kristen Elliott and
Layken McGuire were next with eight points each.
Gustavus freshman Rachel Kawiecki led all scorers and rebounders with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Anna Sanders (14), Emma Kniefel (12) and Syd Hauger (11) completed the list of double digit scorers for the Gusties.
Luther travels to UW-Stevens Point this Saturday, Nov. 20 for a game that will begin at 3:00 p.m.
