On Saturday, Oct. 16 during halftime of the Luther - Wartburg Football game, the 1955 Corn Bowl and 1970 Amos Alonso Stagg Bowl teams will be inducted into the Luther College Team Hall of Fame. These two teams are the only football teams to qualify for a post-season bowl game in the history of Luther Football.
The Corn Bowl team traveled to Western Illinois University, Macomb, Ill., and defeated the Leathernecks 24-20. With the victory, Head Coach Edsel Schweizer's squad finished the year with a record of 9-0-1. The 1955 team was a key cog in what proved to be Luther's longest win streak without a loss of 21, established from 1953-56. During this stretch the Norsemen were 19-0-2.
The Midwest Region Amos Alonso Stagg Bowl squad finished the year with an overall record of 8-2. Preseason polls did not even consider this team a factor in the Iowa Conference, that it won with a mark of 6-1. Coach Schweizer called the team his "biggest surprise in 19 years as head coach at Luther College."
Led by eight all-conference honorees, Luther traveled to Capital University, Columbus, Ohio and was defeated by a final of 34-21.
