The 2021 American Rivers Conference women's tennis individual tournament is in the books. Luther College freshman
Renata Martinez, who was unseeded for the Flight A singles tournament, posted a record of 5-0 and claimed the individual title.
Martinez trip to the championship match included wins over Natalie Kaiser of Wartburg (6-0, 6-0); teammate Natalie Smith (6-4, 6-2); No. 4 seed Anna Wanek of Simpson (6-2, 6-4); No. 7 seed Bronwyn Metcalf of Central (6-1, 6-1) in the semifinals; and a three-set victory over teammate
Shelby Cook (5-7, 7-5, 10-8) in the title match.
Cook had a first round bye and then won three matches before facing Martinez in the finals. She defeated Lauren Diiulio of Loras (6-1, 6-2); No. 6 seed Emily King of Simpson (6-0, 6-1); and No. 8 seed Meadow LaDuke of Wartburg (6-4, 6-1) in the semifinals.
Martinez and
Lexi Hastings advanced to the championship match of Flight A doubles before dropping an (8-3) decision to Central's No. 4 seed duo of Maddie Hartley and Alyssa Lewton.
In B Singles,
Jalen DenHartog earned a bronze medal, defeating teammate
Sydney Clausen (6-3, 5-7, (11-9)) in the third place match.
In C Singles,
Linnea Wolle earned a bronze medal, defeating Jennifer Larson of Central (6-3, 6-4).
