DECORAH, Iowa — The no. 25 Luther men's soccer team dropped their home opener to no. 13 to Macalester 1-0. The Norse outshot the Scots 9-4 in the loss.
In the opening half, Luther tallied five shots compared to one by Macalester.
Will Elias almost put the Norse on the board but his header was blocked by the solid defense of the Scots in 28th minute. However, the game was held scoreless going into halftime.
Will Lookingbill kept the second half scoreless by saving Kasdan Blattman's shot in the 48th minute. Later, taking advantage of a miscue by the Norse the Scots scored in the 71st minute with a goal from John Albright.
Ethan Le Moine nearly equalized in 75th minute but the shot went up and over the top left of the goal. Later in the 85th minute
Theo Cornell took a short through traffic but it was cleared away by Macalester.
Luther faces another top-25 opponent at no. 8 Augsburg University on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
