DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther men's soccer team and Illinois College tied 1-1 in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Francesco Mungari scored his fourth goal of the season in the 47
th minute. The Norse are now 2-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Midwest Conference.
Both goals in the game came in the second half. Luther broke open the deadlock in the 47
th minute.
Nels Mortenson passed it to Mungari who immediately fired a shot that went under the cross bar and into the back of the net. The lead didn't last long as the Blue Boys leveled the scoreline in the 50
th minute. Both teams earned a point for the conference standings.
The Norse outshot the Blue Boys 10-7 with six shots on goal. Mungari leads the team with four goals this season and Mortenson tallied his third assist.
Illinois College moves to 5-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
The next game for Luther is on the road at Grinnell College on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is a 4 p.m. in Grinnell, Iowa.
