The Luther College women's tennis team, ranked No. 66 by the ITA in the NCAA III, had its season come to an end this afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Norse were defeated by the No. 2 team in the nation, the University of Chicago, by a final of 4-0. The Norse were making their third appearance in the second round of the NCAA III National Tournament and first since 2011.
Chicago won the doubles point winning two of the three matches.
Lena Lichau and
Abby Struble posted a (6-4) win at No. 2 over Tina Kintiroglou and Lily Zawaneh. Olivia Mikos and Lauren Khou, ranked No. 21, defeated
Allie Christensen and
Avery Schifsky-Seguin (6-1) at No. 1.
Abby Ostermann and
Liselot van Den Broek were defeated at No. 3 (6-3).
Chicago needed three wins to secure the team victory. No. 19 ranked Anika Paul posted the first singles point with a (6-0, 6-1) win over Christensen at No. 3. Sarena Biria, ranked No. 2, was next with a (6-0, 6-0) win over Ostermann at No. 1. Kintiroglou secured the victory with a (6-0, 6-1) win over van Den Broek at No. 6.
