WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Luther College Baseball team opened the NCAA Division III National Tournament falling to Bethany Lutheran College 8-2. The Vikings out hit the Norse 10-5. Luther drops to 33-12 overall while Bethany Lutheran improves to 32-6.
After two scoreless innings, the Vikings plated three runs in the third and five in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Later in the top of the sixth, the Norse were able to get on the board after
Ty Grewal scored on
Ike Swanson's groundout.
An inning later, Luther loaded the bases with nobody out. Then Bethany Lutheran was able to get out the jam after double play and a flyout ending the Norse threat.
Then in the ninth,
Gavin Scurr led off the inning with a double and
Tyrus Werner drove him in with a single up the middle. However, it was not enough to overcome the deficit as Bethany Lutheran won the game 8-2.
Scurr led the hitters going 2-for-4 with one run. Swanson and Werner were credited with an rbi.

"We have to just get back on track like I said play our brand of baseball," head coach
Bryan Nikkel said. "And come out with a little bit more fire."
