Luther and Loras Split Doubleheader

DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther College softball team split the series doubleheader against Loras College. The Duhawks won the first game 1-0 and the Norse took the second game 9-3. The Norse are now 18-12 overall and 7-5 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
 
Game 1: Luther 0, Loras 1
Loras scored one run on one hit in the top of the sixth inning off a double into center field to defeat the Luther. The Norse left 10 runners on base including runners in scoring position in the first, third, and seventh innings. Raven Allen was 2-for-3 at the plate. Alexa Stevermer pitched a complete game allowing one run, two walks and struck out five batters.
 
Game 2: Luther 9, Loras 3
The Duhawks took a 1-0 lead after one half inning scoring on a sac fly. The Norse quickly responded plating three runs in the bottom half of the inning with a double from Allen and a two-run rbi single from Avery Nehring to take the lead. Luther tacked on one run in the second and fourth while Loras added one in the third. The Norse held a 4-1 advantage heading into the sixth.
 
The Duhawks plated a run in the top of the sixth. Allen hit a bases clearing double in the bottom half of the inning for three rbi extending the Luther lead (9-3). Stevermer only faced four batters in the seventh to secure the series split.
 
Isabelle Staton gets the credit for the win pitching four innings allowing five hits, two runs, three walks and one strikeout. Stevermer earns the save pitching with three innings pitched allowing four hits, one run and one strikeout in 13 batters faced. Mya Larsen was 4-for-4 with two runs and two rbi. Allen led the team with five rbi.
 
Madi Urfer tied the single season school record with Anna Strien of 15 hit by pitch in 2018.

Loras is now 22-12 overall and 5-7 in the A-R-C.
 
Luther hosts Cornell College on Saturday, April 25. First pitch is at 1 p.m. in Deocrah, Iowa for senior day.
