DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther softball team split the non-conference doubleheader with Cornell College. The Rams took game one 6-5 before the Norse roared back in the second game with a 12-4 victory in six innings. Luther is now 19-13 overall.
Game 1: Luther 5, Cornell 6
Cornell out hit Luther 12-7. The Rams did most of their damage on two outs including the first, third and fifth inning.
Raven Allen and
Evie Strigel both were 2-for-3 at the plate in the game.
Avery Nehring and Strigel both had two rbi while Allen was credited with one.
Alexa Stevermer and
Isabelle Staton split the pitching duties in the game.
Stevermer allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned), and recorded three strikeouts. Staton gave up five hits, two runs, three walks and struck out one.
Game 2: Luther 12, Cornell 4 (6 innings)
Luther scored 12 runs on 15 hits and scored in every frame but the fourth. Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the third, an rbi single from
Evie Strigel put the Norse back out in front (4-3). Later in the home half of the fifth inning, Luther sent 12 batters to the plate scoring six runs on four hits from
Ashley Russell,
Mya Larsen,
Madi Elwood, and
Avery Nehring. The Rams got a run back in the sixth but then the Norse tallied five straight hits securing the 12-4 win in six innings.
Allen led the team with three rbi and was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs.
Madi Urfer,
Mya Larsen,
Avery Nehring had two rbi each.
Alexa Stevermer was credited with the win pitching three innings allowing one hit and recorded one strikeout.
Next season the two will meet as conference opponents in the Midwest Conference. Cornell is now 20-12 overall.
Luther also recognized 10 seniors as part of their senior day recognition. The senior class includes
