GRINNELL, Iowa – The Luther softball team swept Grinnell 11-3 in six innings and 6-4 in a non-conference series. Between the two games the Norse had 27 hits. Next year the two will meet as conference opponents in the Midwest Conference. The Norse are now 14-10 overall.
Game 1: Luther 11, Grinnell 3 (6 inn.)
Luther scored 11 runs on 17 hits en route to the win in six innings.
Evie Strigel (3-for-3) led the team with four rbi.
Raven Allen followed with three rbi. Players also credited with rbi were
Avery Nehring,
Rose Weber (3-four-4) and
Mya Larsen (2-for-4).
Alexa Stevermer got the win in the circle pitching the complete game allowing nine hits, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts. She is now 7-4 this season.
Game 2: Luther 6, Grinnell 4
Heading into the top of the fifth, the Norse trailed by one (3-4). Luther pulled back out in front with sac fly rbi from Nehring and Strigel. One lone run was added in the top of the sixth as
Kari Welter pinch running scored on the wild pitch. Stevermer faced four batters in the seventh to secure the victory. Nehring led the team with two rbi.
Isabelle Staton was credited with the win and is now 7-6 on the season. Stevermer gets her first save of the season pitching the final three frames allowing just one hit, one walk and struck out three in 11 batters faced.
Grinnell is now 6-20 overall.
These games were made up from Sunday, April 12 when they got rained out.
Luther is back on the field on Saturday, April 18 at Buena Vista. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 1 p.m. in Storm Lake, Iowa.
