Two nationally ranked teams faced each other in a non-conference match at the Tennis, Pickleball and Fitness Center in Owatonna, Minn., this afternoon. The No. 53 Knights of Carleton College came out on top defeating No. 42 Luther by a final of 5-2.
The Norse led 1-0 after winning two of three of the doubles matches. The Knights responded winning five of the six singles matches, two in straight sets and three in a third set tiebreaker, to secure the victory.
Joao Benvenutti posted the lone singles win for the Norse at No. 1. Benvenutti defeated Akshay Garapati (6-7(6-8), 6-1, 10-6).Â
Juan Hernandez Herrera at No. 2,
Gerardo Ramirez Mainou at No. 3 and
Rhys Biro-Moore at No. 4 all lost hard fought three-set matches.Â
Benvenutti and
Geoffrey Stoughton posted a (6-3) win at No. 1 doubles, while
Jake Althaus and Herrera won at No. 3 7-6(7-2).

The loss snapped Luther's six match win streak and lowered its overall record to 14-3. Carleton improved to 15-5.
Luther returns to A-R-C play on Wednesday, April 15 at home against the University of Dubuque. Start time is 4 p.m.
