Norse - Spartans Split Saturday's Double Header - Spartans Win Series 2-1

The Luther College baseball team wrapped up its three-game series at the University of Dubuque this afternoon. The Spartans won game one 4-1 and the Norse won the nightcap 8-4. The Spartans won the series and improved to 4-2 in the American Rivers Conference and are currently in a four-way tie atop the league standings with Coe, Loras and Central. Luther is now 4-3 in league play and 13-7 overall. 

In game one, the Spartans did all of their damage in the sixth inning scoring four run on four hits. Luther's lone run came in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly to left field by Jimmy Robbins that scored Zach Gwost. Gwost lead off the inning with a double.

Luther snapped a three-game losing streak with a 8-4 victory in today's nightcap. The Norse had nine hits and scored once in both the first and third innings and three times in both the fifth and seventh frames. Zach Gwost continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-5 and drove in a team best two rbi. Robbins also had a multiple hit game with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with one rbi. Tyrus Werner was also credited with an rbi.  Charles Running (3-1) was credited with the win. Running, who pitched six innings, allowed three runs on two hits, walked six and struck out five. Randy Pereyra (1) was credited with his first save of the season. Pereyra allowed one run on one hit, walked one and fanned four in three innings of work.

This Tuesday, March 31, the Norse return to Dubuque to face Loras College, for a double header that will begin at 3:30 p.m.
