Women's Tennis Posts 2-2 Record on Annual Spring Trip to Orlando, Florida - Recaps

The Luther College women's tennis team traveled to Orlando, Florida and played four matches at the USTA National Campus from March 22-26. The Norse posted a record of 2-2 and are now 12-4 overall.

March 22 - Centre College (KY) 5, Luther 2
This was the third meeting between these two teams and this afternoon Centre defeated Luther for the first time by a final of 5-2. The Colonels swept doubles play and won four of six singles matches to secure the win. Luther's wins in singles were produced by Lena Lichau at No. 2 in a three set tie breaker (1-6, 6-1, 10-2), and Ale Villanueva won in straight sets at No. 6 (6-3, 7-5).

March 23 - George Fox University (OR) 4, Luther 3
The Bruins of George Fox University won four of six singles matches after being swept in doubles play and secured a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Norse. Lena Lichau at No. 2 and Julianna Mascardo at No. 6 secured the Norse wins in singles. Lichau won a three-set match (6-3, 2-6, 10-8) and Mascardo won in straight set (6-0, 6-0). The loss was the second in a row for the Norse who are now 10-4 overall.

March 24 - Luther 7, Huntingdon College (AL) 0
Luther snapped its two-match losing streak with an impressive 7-0 victory over Huntingdon College this afternoon. The Norse swept doubles losing just five games. In singles, the Norse won five matches in straight sets and Abby Ostermann secured the shut out with a three-set tie breaker victory at No. 1 (4-6, 6-4, 10-8). Allie Christensen at No. 3 and Julianna Mascardo at No. 4 both won (6-0, 6-0). Luther is now 11-4 overall.

March 26 - Luther 4, St. Lawrence University (NY) 3
The Norse won four of six singles matches after falling behind the Saints 1-0 after doubles play. The Norse lone win in doubles was at No. 3 where Julianna Mascardo and Linselot van Den Broek posted a (6-2) win. Three of the four Norse wins in singles were decided by a third set tie breaker. Allie Christensen won at No. 3 (7-6(7-4), 6-7(3-7), 10-2. Julianna Mascardo won at No. 4 (7-6(7-3), 6-1. Rafaela Queiroga Tavares won at No. 5 (4-6, 7-5, 11-9). Ale Villanueva won at No. 6 (4-6, 6-1,10-7). The win raises Luther's overall record to 12-4.
