Luther Posts 6-4 Record During Annual Spring Trip to Clermont, Florida - Recaps

The Luther College softball team is on its annual spring trip to Clermont, Florida, a suburb just north of Orlando. The Norse are scheduled to play 10 games in seven days at Legends Way Ballfields. The Norse entered the trip with an overall record of 3-3.

March 21 - Amherst College (MA) 8, Luther 6
Luther dropped its spring trip opener to Amherst 8-6. The Norse did all of their damage in the fourth scoring six runs on five hits. The Mammoths Lulu Leppard hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh that proved to be the game winner.

March 21 - Luther 8, Trinity College (CT) 3
The Norse scored eight runs on 12 hits and leveled their overall record to 4-4. Rose Weber led the offensive attack going 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Madi Urfer, Avery Nehring, Raven Allen, Alison Martinez and Jordan Torrez were all credited with an rbi. Alexa Stevermer (2-1) allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out two en route to the win on the mound.

March 22 - Luther 6, St. Lawrence University (NY) 4
Luther improved to 5-4 thanks to a come-from-behind win over St. Lawrence University. The Norse were trailing 4-1 entering the top of the fifth and scored four runs on five hits. The added an insurance run in the top of the seventh en route to the final score. Rose Weber led the attack driving in three runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Mya Larsen and Jayle Harter were also credited with an rbi. Alexa Stevermer (3-1) was credited with the win. She pitched the final six innings, allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out three.

March 22 - Luther 12, Knox College 0 (5)
The Norse scored 12 runs on 13 hits and ended this game early. Raven Allen led the offensive attack driving in four runs. Rose Weber drove in two, while Mya Larson, Avery Lerfald, Jayla Harter, Evie Strigel, and Ashley Russell all drove in one. Isabelle Staton (3-3) got the win in the circle. She allowed just one hit in three innings of work, striking out four. Kenedy Sandoval pitches the final two frames and gave up two hits and walked one.

March 24 - Colby 8, Luther 0 (6)
Colby scored eight runs on 12 hits scoring three times in the fourth and five times in the sixth to end this game early. Luther had two hits, one by Avery Nehring and the other by Evie Strigel.

March 24 - Luther 8, Kalamazoo 0 (5)
Luther rebounded with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Kalamazoo. The Norse had 11 hits, led by Mya Larsen with three. Raven Allen, Rose Weber and Ashley Russell each had two. Weber led the team with three rbi. Isabelle Staton was credited with the win in the circle. She allowed five hits and struck out two. Luther is now 7-5 overall.

March 25 - Buffalo State 10, Luther 4
Buffalo State scored in every inning except two en rote to the win. The Norse tallied four runs on seven hits but committed seven errors. Avery Nehring had a multiple hit game going 2-for-3. Madi Urfer drove in two runs, while Raven Allen and Evie Strigel both drove in one.

March 25 - Luther 21, Union College (NY) 0 (5)
Luther improved to 8-6 overall after scoring 21 runs on 17 hits in five innings of play. Raven Allen led the offensive attack going 3-for-5 and driving in five runs. Allen almost hit for the cycle with a single in the first frame, double in the second, triple in the fourth followed by a towering pop up to the catcher in the fifth. She also scored three runs, with her second of the game becoming her 100th career run scored. Evie Strigel, Kari Welter and Jenna Heeren all drove in two runs. Alexa Stevermer and Addie Fyles threw a combined no-hitter. Stevermer was credited with the win striking out four and walking two in her three innings of work. Fyles retired all six batters she faced in the final two innings.

March 27 - Middlebury College (VT) 5, Luther 3
Middlebury scored five runs on nine hits en route to the victory. Luther scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and had two runners in scoring position but were unable to send the game in to extra frames. Raven Allen had two rbi and Avery Nehring had one. Madi Elwood had a multiple hit game going 2-for-3.

March 27 - Luther 12, Lawrence (WI) 7
The Norse wrapped up their spring trip to Clermont, Fla., with a 12-7 victory over future Midwest Conference opponent Lawrence University. Next year the Norse will be a member of the Midwest Conference. The Norse scored 12 runs on 12 hits with seven of the runs coming in the top of the first. The Norse added two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Madi Urfer led the attack with three rbi. Raven Allen, Rose Weber and Chloe Wagner all had two rbi. Allen was 3-for-3 and became the 23rd player in Luther history to achieve 150 career hits. Isabelle Stanton (5-4) was credited with the win allowing two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four in five innings of work.
