ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Luther softball team finished its weekend at the Rochester Dome Games splitting the day with a 3-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a win in eight innings versus Macalester College 5-4.
Game 1: Luther 2, UW-Stout 3
Raven Allen game the Norse a 1-0 lead after the first inning with her rbi double. Then one inning later
Kari Welter doubled the lead with a solo home run deep out to center field. This was her first career home run. The Blue Devils cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. UW-Stout overtook the lead in the bottom half of the third with two back-to-back doubles.
Game 2: Luther 5, Macalester 4 (8 inn.)
The Scots had a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.
Mya Larsen got the offense going driving in a run with her single into center field. Then
Madi Elwood reached on fielder's choice that allowed
Kaitlyn Krambeer to score tying the game at 2-2.
Macalester added two runs in the sixth taking a 4-2 advantage going into the seventh inning. With two outs with Larsen standing on second, Allen hit her first triple of the year to cut the lead to one. Elwood followed up with a single allowing Allen to score tying the game for a second time at 4-4.
In the eighth, the Scots didn't score giving the home team a change for a walk off win. With one out Welter laid down a sac bunt allowing Chole Wagner to advance to third. Then
Jaydan Clayton reached on the fielder's choice putting runners at the corners with one out.
Rose Weber was the hero as she had the game winning rbi single into left field. Luther picked up their first win of the season. In the circle
Isabelle Staton picked up her first win.
Up next the Luther travels to Webster University for a doubleheader in St. Louis, Mo. First pitch will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
