The Luther College men's tennis team traveled to Lake Geneva, Wis., and the Geneva Tennis Center for the first of three duals this weekend of the Warhawk Invitational. The Norse faced host UW-Whitewater tonight and lost a hard-fought 4-3 decision with the match decided in the final flights of both doubles and singles.
In doubles,
Joao Benvenutti and
Abhay Chhabra posted a (6-4) victory at No. 1.
Juan Hernandez Herrera and
Geoffrey Stoughton lost at No. 3 (7-5). At No. 2,
Jake Nelson and
Gregor Gottein battled Gavin Kelleher and Charles Morgan and were defeated in a tie-breaker (7-6, (7-4)).
In singles and with five matches complete, the team score sat at 3-3. The Warhawks Daniel Moeller secured the team victory defeating
Rhys Biro-Moore (6-2, 7-5) at No. 6.Â
Two of the three singles victories for the Norse were decided in a third set tie-breaker. Benvenutti won at No. 1 (1-6, 6-2, 10-6) over Theo Billson who is ranked No. 26 in singles in the NCAA III.
Gerardo Ramirez Mainou won at No. 4 (6-4, 3-6, 10-7), and Herrera won in straight sets at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4).

Luther will return to action tomorrow (Saturday) with matches against Grinnell College at 1:30 p.m. followed by a match against Wheaton College (IL) at 6:30 p.m.
