The Luther College men's tennis team won its fourth match in a row defeating UW-La Crosse 4-3 tonight in the Bob and Ann Naslund Sports and Recreation Center. The Norse won two of three doubles matches to earn the opening point, and both teams won three singles matches. The victory gives Luther an overall record of 5-1, while La Crosse fell to 8-2.
In doubles,
Joao Benvenutti and
Abhay Chhabra improved to 12-1 with a (6-2) win at No. 1.
Gregor Gottein and
Jake Nelson were defeated at No. 2 (6-4).Â
Rhys Biro-Moore and
Juan Hernandez Herrera secured the team point posting a (7-5 (7-5)) win at No. 3.
The top two singles matches were decided in a tie breaker. The Eagles Tyler Schneider defeated Benvenutti at No. 1 (4-6, 6-3, 10-4). Herrera won at No. 2 (7-5, 2-6, 10-1) over Aiden Meixl. Chhabra won at No. 3 (7-6(7-5), 7-5). The Eagles won in straight set at No. 4 and No. 5 leveling the team score to 3-3.
Nelson at No. 6, posted a straight set victory over Brady Horstmann (6-2, 6-1), that secured the 4-3 final.Â

Luther will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 22 when it will host Buena Vista University at 9 a.m., followed by a match against St. Olaf College at 2 p.m.
