DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Luther women's basketball team swept the regular season series over Loras for the first time since the 2019-20 season. The Norse defeated the Duhawks 73-46 to improve to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
In the opening quarter, the Norse defense limited the Duhawks to four points while scoring 20 for the early lead. Although Loras outscored Luther in the second quarter (12-11) the Norse took the advantage into the locker room.
During the second half, Luther continued to keep building their lead. With 3:59 remaining in the contest a pair of free throws by
Haylie Strum gave the Norse their largest lead of the night at 32 points (70-38). Luther secured the victory as they remain in third place among the conference standings.
Strum and
Natalie Beaver both tallied double-doubles. Setting a season high for points in a single game was Strum who lead the team with 26 points while also recording 10 rebounds. Beaver followed with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Katie Hardtke scored 10 points.
Luther shot 43.1 percent for the game from the floor while holding Loras to a 30.6 shooting percentage.
Loras drops to 8-15 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
On Saturday, Feb. 14, Luther will host Buena Vista for senior day. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
