Francesco Mungari (men's soccer) and
Riley Anderson (women's soccer) were named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week for their performances for the week of Sept. 28 through Oct. 4.
Sean Medcalfe – Football Special Teams Performer of the Week
He hit the game-winning field goal from 54-yards out in the 27-26 win over Illinois College on Saturday, Oct. 3 setting a new school record in the process. Medcalfe finished the game 2-for-2 on field goals (28-yards, 54-yards) and 3-for-3 on PATs. He also kicked off six times for 375 yards for an average of 62.5 yards with five touchbacks. He punted for 189 yards for an average of 47.2 and his longest punt was 70 yards. Medcalfe has now earned four out of the five special teams performer of the week honors this season. He ranks third in the nation for his 54-yard field goal as of Oct. 5. Medcalfe was also recognized as a
Fred Mitchell Kicker of the Week and this is the fourth time he has received the conference special teams performer of the week honors.
Francesco Mungari – Men's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week
The Luther men's soccer team went 2-0 during the week with a 3-0 win at Grinnell College on Wednesday, Sept. 30 and a 4-1 victory over Lake Forest College on Saturday, Oct. 3. In the win over the Foresters he led the team with two goals and one assist. This is the second time this season he has recorded two goals and one assist with the last time coming against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Sept. 17.
Riley Anderson – Women's Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week
Anderson helped the Luther women's soccer team to a 2-0 week with two shutouts. The Norse defeated Grinnell College 1-0 and handed Lake Forest College their first loss of the season with a final score of 1-0. Anderson and the defense limited both teams to four shots total and only two on goal each. The women's soccer team remains unbeaten in conference play.
