DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther Women's Wrestling team is set to start their second season as Luther College Varsity Sport. They have doubled their numbers and are ready to take on a full schedule of duals and tournaments for the 2026-2027 season.
The Norse are going into the season with a roster of 15 girls including nine incoming freshmen. Key returners for Luther will be Kelsey Knief and Grace Rinehart. Both are going into their sophomore seasons after having 15 wins during their previous freshman season. The culture has been set by the six upperclassmen's leadership, and the nine incoming freshmen look to boost the team with the athletic and academic accolades. The incoming class of freshman combines an overall GPA of 3.73 and brings 18 high school wrestling state medals. Brooklyn Baird is a 5-time medalist out of Whitewood, South Dakota, Shaona Emmanuel is a two time bronze medalist out of Iowa City, Iowa, and Bella Riebe is coming off of a state championship win out of West Allis, Wisconsin.
The Luther Norse will host their first two home duals ever this season on Dec. 10th taking on St. Ambrose University and Jan. 13th against Upper Iowa University. The women will also compete in the Luther Open on Nov. 14th, the Music City Duals in Nashville, Tennessee on Dec. 18th, and the Quad Cities D3 National Invite the weekend of Feb. 6th and 7th. The Women's Wrestling Regional 5 will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point the weekend of Feb. 20th and 21st where the girls will compete for a chance to wrestle at the NCAA National Tournament in Coralsville, Iowa.
"The girls have been working hard all summer, and we are excited to finally get in our incredible new room as a LWW family and get to work! We're young, but we're hungry for success and are willing to live the right lifestyle to do so!" says second year head coach Ryan Timmerman.
Luther Women's Wrestling will open up the 2026-2027 season on Nov. 4th at Augsburg University with a dual beginning at 7 p.m.
