DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther women's basketball team took down the University of Dubuque 76-64 behind double digit performances from
Haylie Strum,
Lexi Thomas and
Ellie McMann. With the win, head coach
Amanda Bailey reached career win 200. Luther moved to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
Both teams were slow out of the gate but Luther held a 39-23. In the third quarter the Spartans roared back out scoring the Norse 27-18.
Dubuque closed the gap as Christina Simonetti scored in the paint getting the-and-one for a three-point play with 9:12 remaining in the contest. Luther quickly responded on the other end with a bucket from
Natalie Beaver. The Norse finished the game on a 20-10 run.
Luther dominated the paint (38-26) and rebounds (48-37). Strum led the team with 21 points and six assists. Thomas recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. McMann tallied 10 points.
For the game the Norse shot 40.3 percent while the Spartans shot 36.7.
The leading scorer for Dubuque was Simonetti with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Spartans are now 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
Luther is on the road for their next game at Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 24 with tip-off at 2 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
