DECORAH, Iowa — The Luther women's soccer team (4-2-1) fell in the final seconds of the game to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (3-3-3) 2-1 on Saturday.
In the 11th minute, the Pointers were on the board with a goal by Cass Klitzke off the corner kick. Later, an own goal in the 21st minute by UW-Stevens Point tied the game at 1-1. The Norse had chances late with shots from
Sofia Colavita and
Kate Van Deventer but the score remained tied headed into the break.
In the second half, the best chance for Luther came in the 59th minute when
Ava Stemler's shot hit the crossbar. With the score still tied at 1-1, the Pointers scored the game winning goal in the final seconds to defeat the Norse 2-1.
Elisabeth Queoff made three saves.
The Pointers led the shots category 13-10.
Up next Luther is on the road at Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, Sept. 24 to resume the game that was suspended on Saturday, Sept. 13 due to heat. The game will start with the continuation of the first half at 5 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
