LA CROSSE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Superior (5-4, 0-0 UMAC) defeated Luther College (3-7, 0-0 A-R-C) in straight sets on Friday evening at Mitchell Hall, winning 25-17, 25-16, 25-23.
The Yellowjackets rallied to took control midway through the set, building momentum with a sequence of successful kills and a service ace to establish a 9-6 lead. The Norse attempted to respond with a service ace from
Julianne Lundvall and a kill by
Annika Franzen, but the Yellowjackets' consistent attack, including a decisive kill by Kate Jamtgaard, secured the set 25-17.
In the second set, the Yellowjackets established an 8-2 lead.
Hailey Schultz provided a spark for Luther with consecutive kills, narrowing the gap to 13-7. Despite a late rally featuring a kill from
Lindsay Hanson assisted by
Victoria Gomez, Luther fell short as the Yellowjackets secured the set 25-16.
The third set began with Luther capitalizing on multiple errors by the Yellowjackets, to take an early 3-0 advantage.
Addie Leuthner's assists were crucial in setting up key plays, with Hanson delivering four kills, including decisive strikes at 11-3 and 20-21, helping Luther maintain a narrow lead. The Yellowjackets managed to edge finish the set 25-23 win to sweep the Norse.
Hanson led the team with 10 kills on 24 attempts for a .292 hitting percentage. Gomez had 12 digs and Leuthner tallied 14 assists.
Up next the Norse will play St. Scholastica at 9 a.m. followed by St. Norbert at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the UW-La Crosse Invitational in La Crosse, Wis.
