Norse Split With Eagles

DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther softball team split its final non-conference series against the University of Northwestern (MN) on Tuesday. The Norse defeated the Eagles 6-4 in the first game but feel in the second by a final score of 10-5. Raven Allen was 4-7 at the plate in the series with four runs, four rbi with two home runs. Luther is 17-11 overall. 

Game 1: Luther 6, Northwestern 4
Down by one in the bottom of the second, Chloe Wagner hit an rbi single into center field to tie the game. Lead off batter Allen, followed with a three run home run giving the the Norse the lead 4-1. Later in the fourth Luther added another pair of runs off of an rbi single from Madi Elwood and a sac fly from Avery Nehring. The Eagles inched closer scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull within two. 

In the top of the seventh, the Eagles had runners at second and third and one out. The Norse defense was able to grab the second out with Riley Sauser throwing the runner out at home and Jerrianne Dannenmueller laying down the tag. Olivia Engler struck down the pinch hitter with strikeout to win the game. 

Engler pitched the full game, allowing 11 hits, four runs and struck out six in 33 batters faced. She is now 10-7 in the circle. 

Game 2: Northwestern 10, Luther 5
The Norse scored three runs on three hits for an early lead. An inning later, with two outs Allen hit her second home run of the afternoon. Riley Sauser also had an rbi triple that scored Mya Larsen to take a 5-0 advantage. 

Northwestern tied the game in the fourth as they batted around their order. The Eagles added four more runs in the sixth to take the lead and added one run in the seventh to win the game 10-5. 

Allen and Larsen were both 2-4 with two runs. 

The Eagles are now 22-9 overall.
