Luther Beats Dubuque 8-7 (8), 2-1

DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther softball team swept the University of Dubuque in a doubleheader with a walk-off 8-7 win in eight innings and a 2-1 victory in the second game. This was the third straight season that the Norse have swept the Spartans in the regular season. The Norse improve to 19-13 overall and 4-4 in the American Rivers Conference. 

Game 1: Luther 8, Dubuque 7 (8 innings)
The Spartans had a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first frame. Luther knotted the game with an rbi single into centerfield from Riley Sauser. Chloe Wagner followed two batters later hitting a home run over the left field fence putting the Norse up 3-1. 

In the third and fourth innings, Dubuque answered and pulled ahead 5-3. Then in fifth with two outs and a runner on Delaney Martinez-Wilson hit a home run to tie the game for the second time at 5-5. 

The Spartans claimed the lead back in the sixth off of a two-run home run. The Norse cut the lead to one in the bottom half of the inning to one thanks to an rbi single from Madi Elwood. 

In the bottom of the seventh, with one out, Mya Larsen hit a single that scored Wagner bringing the score to 7-7 but the Spartans forced the game into extra innings. 

The Norse defense held the Spartans to one hit in the eighth. In the bottom half of the frame Luther had runners at first and third with two outs. Wagner had the game winning hit into centerfield for the walk-off victory 8-7. 

Riley Sauser was 3-5 with two runs and one rbi. Wagner was 2-3 with two runs and a team best three rbi. Larsen was 3-4 with a run and one rbi. 

In the circle, Isabelle Staton got the win pitching 4.2 innings allowing four hits, two runs, two walks and one strikeout. 

Game 2: Luther 2, Dubuque 1
Heading into the bottom of the first down by one, Wagner's rbi single up the middle brought the tying run across the plate. An inning later, a single from Raven Allen put the Norse out in front 2-1. 

The defense and Olivia Engler held the Spartans to one run on seven hits. Engler moved to 11-8 on the season as she struck out six in the game. 

Dubuque is now 16-14 overall and 5-7 in the A-R-C.
