Game Recap: Baseball |

Norse - Oles Split Day One of Two Day Series in Independence, Iowa

Luther College and St. Olaf College met at Indepence High School, Independence, Iowa for a two-day four-game series. These games had been moved to Brandon Valley High School, Brandon, S.D. earlier in the week, but three inches of snow in that area forced the two teams to return to Independence High School, a completely turfed field, and were able to play a twin bill that finished under the lights.

In game one, the Oles scored nine runs on 10 hits and defeated the Norse 9-2. The Oles did the majority of their damage in the final three frames of this seven inning contest, scoring three in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Luther scored once in the fourth and once in the sixth. The Norse managed just four hits. Mark Prince and Ike Swanson were both credited win an RBI.

Box Score

Game two was a back-and-forth battle that ended in a 8-7 victory for the Norse, their first win of the season.

With the score tied 7-7 entering the bottom of the eighth, Norse freshman center fielder Ryan Truman hit a two-out double down the first base line that scored pinch runner Gabe Atkins. Atkins was on first base replacing designated hitter Noah Dutler, who started the inning with a walk. Truman completed the nightcap 2-for-5 from the lead-off slot. Gavin Scurr, Will Heithoff and Garren Heinert also had two hits each. Heinert led the team with three RBI and Prince was credited with two.

Aaron Clark (1-0) was credited with the win in relief. Clark pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit, walked two and struck out four.

Box Score

These two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow (Sunday) with a double header that will start at 12:30 p.m.
