Women's Tennis Wraps Up Spring Trip to Orlando, Florida Posting 3-2 Record

The Luther College women's tennis team is on its annual spring trip to Orlando, Fla., Mar. 23-27. The Norse will play five matches at the USTA National Campus Team Collegiate center.

Sunday, March 23 Recaps:
Union College (NY) 5, Luther 2

Union won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches en route to the 5-2 victory. Riley O'Donnell and Abby Struble secured the lone doubles victory for the Norse (6-4). Allie Christensen won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, while Rafaela Queiroga Tavares won in three sets at No. 4.

Monday, March 24 Recaps:
George Fox University 5, Luther 2

The Norse won two of four singles matches and one doubles match and were defeated by George Fox University 5-2. In doubles, Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou and Rafaela Queiroga Tavares won at No. 3 (6-4). Allie Christensen won at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-3), and Juliai Moreno won at No. 6 (7-5, 6-3). Ramirez at No. 1 and Riley O'Donnell both lost in three sets at No. 1 and No. 3 respectively.

Luther 7, Hendrix College 0
The Norse snapped a two-match losing streak posting a 7-0 victory over Hendrix College. The Norse swept singles and won two of three doubles matches. Five of the six singles wins were in straight sets. Julia Moreno battled to a three-set victory (6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5)). The win gives Luther an overall record of 10-5.

Wednesday, March 26 Recap:
Luther 5, Centre (KY) 2

Luther had just one match on the schedule today and posted a 5-2 victory over Centre College (KY). This was only the second meeting between these two schools, the first taking place Mar. 25, 2003. The Norse are now 2-0 over the Colonels.

The Norse won two of three doubles matches to secure one point and then went on to win four of six singles matches. In doubles, Allie Christensen and Julia Moreno won at No. 1 (6-4). Riley O'Donnell and Monserrat Ramirez-Mainou posted a (6-1) win at No. 3. Lena Lichau at No. 2 singles and Moreno at No. 6 won in straight sets. O'Donnell at No. 3 and Christensen at No. 5 both won in a three-set tie-breaker.  The win gives Luther an overall record of 11-5.

Thursday, March 27 Recap:
Luther 6, Augustana (IL) 1

Luther wrapped up its annual spring trip to Orlando, Florida with a 6-1 victory over Augustana (IL) this afternoon. The Norse swept doubles and won five of six singles matches en route to the win. With the win Luther completed its trip with a record of 3-2 and are now 12-5 overall. The Norse lost just five games in doubles and four of the five singles matches were decided in straight sets.
