DECORAH, Iowa — In the final game of the regular season the Luther women's soccer team (7-8-2, 3-4-1 A-R-C) was defeated by Wartburg (8-9-1, 4-3-1 A-R-C) 2-1.
Ava Stemler scored her third goal of the season in the 85th minute.
Wartburg broke open the game in the 32nd minute when Mya Anderson scored for a 1-0 advantage. That would be the scoreline headed into halftime.
Then in the second half, the Knights doubled their lead with a goal from Claudia Sewell. Late in the game, Stemler cut the Wartburg lead in half firing a shot from distance where goalkeeper Mackenzie Ceschan misjudged the ball heading into the back of the net. The Norse trailed by one in the 85th minute.
Lauren Linkletter had the final shot of the game in the final 30 seconds but Ceschan made the stop as the Knights defeated the Norse 2-1.
Elisabeth Queoff made five saves.
Luther is the no. 6 seed heading into the American Rivers Conference Tournament which begins with the first round on Saturday, Nov 1. They will travel to no. 3 seed Simpson. A game time is to be determined.
