GRINNELL, Iowa - Luther volleyball (6-19, 0-4 A-R-C) was swept by Grinnell (9-11, 3-0 Midwest) 17-25, 23-25, 17-25 in the first match of the afternoon. Then the Norse bounced back to defeat the Buccaneers of Beloit (2-18, 0-5 Midwest) in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-15. Vicortia Gomez reached a career milestone crossing 500 career digs against Grinnell. Luther will see these to teams next season as part of the Midwest Conference.
Game 1: Luther 0, Grinnell 3
The Pioneers have won the last two of three matches against the Norse. Grinnell hit .253 for the match compared to .191 of Luther.
Ruby Gerhard led the attack with 11 kills while
Lindsay Hanson recorded eight. Gomez led the defense with 17 digs eclipsing 500 career digs and she currently stands at 503.
Game 2: Luther 3, Beloit 0
Luther swept Beloit in dominating fashion, with a .394 hitting percentage leading to a decisive victory. The Norse also led every statistical category kills (36-17), service aces (13-2), blocks (7-2), assists (31-15), digs (33-22). In the third set, the Norse had 13 kills on 22 swings and one error for their best hitting percentage in a single set at .545.
The Norse had a balanced offense as
Kylie Zeigler led the team with eight kills followed by
Joelle Halverson and Gerhard with seven each.
Iris Elias dished out 16 assists.
Addie Leuthner had eight assists and eight digs.
