It was an almost perfect afternoon for the much anticipated match-up between Luther and the defending NCAA III national champions St. Olaf College in the valley. As expected, the match was very well played by both clubs and thanks to some stellar goalkeeping and a few point blank shots missed by both teams, it ended in a 1-1 tie.
St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute, when Robi Buzakovic scored on a penalty kick, following a foul in the box by a Norse defender.
The Norse leveled the match in the 74th minute when
Nels Mortenson scored his first career goal. The goal came on the third of three consecutive corner kicks by the Norse during a three minute stretch. Raul Ferrandez placed a shot on goal, that was deflected by an Ole defender, and Mortenson sent the rebounded into the back of the Ole net.
In the final minutes, both teams had excellent opportunities but were turned away by the opposing keepers. The Oles Peter Forseth was credited with four saves and Luther's
Jack Bell was credited with six.
