DECOARH, Iowa - The Luther men's soccer rallied to tie 3-3 with #11 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Francesco Mungari put the Norse on the board first but the Blugolds tied it at 1-1 heading into the half. Then UW-Eau Claire took a two goal lead in the 71st minute but Luther responded with goals from
Javier Pastor Valls and
Enzo Mitidieri in the 79th and 85th minute. The Norse are now 2-3-3 overall.
The Norse struck first in the 34th minute. Rául Ferrandez kept the ball in play near the endline passing it in Mungari who slotted it low and into the back net. UW-Eau Claire responded a minute later tying the game at 1-1.
The Blugolds took their first lead of the game in the 51st and doubled their lead off a penalty kick goal in the 71st minute.
In the 76th minute
Jack Bell leaped off the ground to make a one-handed save to keep the Norse within two.
Later,
Nico Cedeno played it back to Pastor Valls who drilled it from outside the 18-yard box cutting the Blugold lead to one in the 79th.
The final goal fo the game would come in the 89th minute. Ferrandez's pass in was blocked by a defender from UW-Eau Claire and the ball bounced to the feet of Mitidieri. He took the shot with his right foot firing it into the goal. Although the Norse were seeking another goal the game would end in a 3-3 draw.
This is the first tie between the teams. Bell made eight saves. Cedeno registered his fourth assist which leads the team. Mungari and Mitidieri both scored in their second consecutive game.
