Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Norse Blank Grizzlies 8-0

DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther men's soccer team defeated Franklin College 8-0 in the first ever meeting between the two programs. Francesco Mungari and Enzo Mitidieri both scored two goals in the contest. Other goal scorers for the Norse included Eli Lehmann, Will Elias, Ignacio Duenas and Ethan Le Moine. Luther is now 2-3-2 overall.

The Norse would start their scoring spree in the 30th minute with Nico Cedeno passed it to Mungari who took one touch and scored. Then with about eight seconds left in the half, Luther fired a shot towards the Franklin goalie who made the initial save but the ball bounced out to the feet of Mitidieri who knocked it into the back of the net. The Norse were up 2-0 going into halftime.

In the 51st minute, Mungari was making a run towards the goal and took a shot and scored his second of the game just outside the six yard box. Then just 37 seconds later Mungari crossed the ball in from the corner flag where it found the head of Lehmann who scored his first goal of the season.

Then in the 64th minute, Mitidieri drilled it low and into the goal for his second goal of the game. Later, David Barlecaj took the corner sending it towards box where it would find Elias who knocked it in with his foot as the Norse were now leading 6-0 in the 70th minute. Luther wasn't done yet as Duenas got on the score sheet firing a shot from the outside the 18 yard box sending it to the lower right corner of the goal.

The final goal of the afternoon for the Norse came in the 89th minute with Le Moine taking a shot low and to the lower right. The Norse won the game 8-0 for their second shutout of the season.

This also marked the first time that Luther had scored eight goals in a game since the 2022 season where they defeated Buena Vista 8-0 on Oct. 1 and St. Scholastica 8-1 on Oct. 2.

This was the second multi-goal game for Mungari of his career as he now leads the Norse in goals with four already in 2024.

Mitidieri, Le Moine and Duenas scored their first career goals.
